The main application is as solvent together with water and/or in combination with low-molecular polyvinylpyrrolidone in veterinary injectable preparations.They have also been suggested for use in human pharmaceutical formulations as solvent in parenteral, oral, and topical applications. In topcal applications, pyrrolydone apper to be effective penetration enhancer. Pyrrolydone have also been investigated for their application in controlled-relese depot phormulations.
